Ms. English-Sand, who is completing her fourth year as the Vice Principal at Edith C. Baker Elementary School in Brookline, will replace interim Principal Tara Harris. Burlington Public Schools extends its gratitude to Principal Harris for her tireless efforts in serving our school community.
Ms. English-Sand, who will begin her position at Memorial School on July 1, was selected following a search process that included family and staff feedback from the Memorial School community survey back in March. The information gathered from the survey was utilized by the eleven-person search committee which was composed of parents, Memorial School staff, district administrators, and a school committee member. The interview committee utilized this information to create the interview questions and work through the process of selecting twelve of the twenty-four applicants for the position to interview.

Ms. English-Sand brings with her a strong background in special education having worked as an inclusion facilitator, a team chair, and a lifelong disability rights advocate. During the interview process, Ms. English-Sand highlighted her commitment to ensuring high expectations for all students. Further, she noted the importance of securing educational equity by identifying and eliminating barriers to educational achievement, respecting human differences, and building relationships with all members of the Memorial School community. In response to her appointment, Ms. English-Sand stated, “What drew me to interview for this leadership position at Memorial School is your history of high standards and academic excellence for all students, and the care that is part of your school culture to ensure that your children are supported in their social, emotional and identity development. I am honored to be appointed to lead Memorial School.”
