Social Emotional Learning - SEL

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Burlington Public Schools SEL work consists of multiple initiatives designed to help students build their capacities and skills in the Five Core Competencies. These skills are taught in varying ways throughout our PK-12 curriculum and schools. Updates regarding school-based SEL programming will be sent via email or school newsletters.
