Good Afternoon High School Parents / Guardians

This morning the High School Administration became aware of an anonymous threat of a school shooting. The threat was posted on a private Instagram account called "BHS Confessions." This account is not associated with the school but is a private account created by a group of students. We immediately worked with Burlington Police to investigate this posting threat.

At the moment there is no credible information that there is an active threat against the school. Again, in collaborative work with Burlington Police we have determined that there is no credibility to this threat.

This message is intended to share the news we have received and to communicate that there is no threat to any student, group of students or staff member of Burlington High School. We understand that rumors on social networks can create uncertainty and fear.

As a precaution, the Burlington Police Department will provide additional resources during filing and removal from BHS until the winter break.

Each time our information is presented, our standard policies and procedures are designed to keep our school safe and enforceable immediately. Administrators have worked closely with our School Resource Officers to determine that no students and staff are at risk.

Student and staff safety is our primary concern. We take all threatening behavior issues seriously. Please be aware that, when necessary, we will communicate any precautions or conditions that need to be adopted to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.

Information about sensitive situations received from sources other than the school / district administration or the police department (ie Facebook) may be misleading. Should you ever have any concerns or questions regarding an issue that you feel will affect the safety or well-being of your child, any other student, or a staff member, please contact the school or district administration directly.

Respectfully,
Eric Conti, Superintendent &
Thomas Browne, Chief of Police Burlington
